From Pig to Rat

Heyo everyone, just want to kick this blog off by saying congratulations to everyone who got an award last night, well done to all the lion and dragon dancers and demo team, and a huge congrats to the two new black belts. You guys earned it.

That demo marked the end of my fifth IHC year, and I can say that somethings never change. Performance anxiety? Still there. I could feel my hands slide down the spade every time I swung it. An overwhelming mixture of feelings, still there. Sad the year is over, but happy I spent it with such a great team. On top of that, some things do change. With each passing year I get to work with new people and see different people grow. It’s a very humbling experience, watching people grow. It makes me reflect on how far I’ve come, and how far I’ve yet to go.

Entering IHC year number six, I realize that it will officially be 1/3 of my life I’ve spent on this team. And that’s the third I value most. I’m looking forward to growing with the Rat team, and contributing to the team. See you on the mats.

Online Kryptonite

Heyo everyone, not much of a theme to this blog, more of a reflection and a catch-up, seeing as how I’m really bad a blogging.

I think it’s fair to say that the online presence of the team is my greatest struggle. There’s something about the written text that gives me anxiety, especially when putting it out for everyone to see. Why this is, I do not know. This has been my problem for so long; that inability to press publish on my blogs. I guess when I think about it, I have a fear of putting my opinion in the open. But that’s all going to be put behind me. This years IHC year is going to be quite different for me, as I’ll be spending half the year remotely, attending school in Lethbridge. I must confess I’m quite nervous about it all, but it will definitely serve to strengthen my online presence, as that will be one of the few things connecting me to the team while I am away. I suppose I’m worried about disappearing and not being seen for months at a time, which is why I really plan on making my online presence stronger than ever. Here’s to hearing more from me!

Chair Table Couch

Heyo everyone. Here’s to getting back on the blog wagon.

A chair, a table, a couch. They’re common items in someone’s home. And maybe that’s why they can be done in so many styles. When it comes to having a chair, a table, or a couch in your home, your imagination is the limits to how it looks, but they all have the same function. A chair will be a chair. A table will be a table. A couch will be a couch. No matter how it looks, or how it’s styled, it still serves that base purpose.

A sit-up, a shoulder roll, a form. They’re common tools in a martial artists inventory. And yet, there’s so many ways you can modify them. Whether you need to modify certain parts to accommodate an injury, or you modify them to make them more challenging on yourself, they follow the same base structure.

With that, everything in Kung Fu has a way to be done. The same way a chair can be built poorly, a kick can be executed poorly. But the more times you build a chair, or the more times you do a kick, the better it will get.

blog out of nowhere

Heyo everyone. This weeks blog is a catch up

It has been awhile since I’ve done a blog and man there was a lot in the air. I went through the month before Chinese New Year with a 41 degree fever and found out I did the banquet with a case of pneumonia. That didn’t take away from the experience though. I loved it. Lately, schools been good. I got my high school diploma in the mail the other day so officially, I’m done. Now I’m just going because hey why not. And mom said so. I’m definitely going to be hopping back onto the blog train so I’ll see everyone on the web

Healing

Heyo everyone. This blog is part one of a three part blog series that I have written but haven’t been able to post lately. This part one will focus on healing.

Healing is an extremely important part of the human life. It is very easy for us to get hurt, either physically, mentally, or emotionally. This pain can slowly overwhelm us. That’s why we need to take the time to heal. However, healing takes a lot of time sometimes. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been battling a pretty nasty sickness. It really knocked me on my rear. It’s been a tough little go. I think the big thing was my focus on trying to get back on my feet. In doing so, I completely forgot to wait until I was fully recovered. I was so intent on getting back on my feet that I forgot to make sure my feet were underneath me. This caused the process of healing to take even longer, because I kept pushing myself beyond my limit. It really did a toll. I finally realized that I have to sit and heal. And so here I am. Healing. Life is good now.

Bleh

Heyo everyone, this weeks blog is late for the reason I plan on discussing.

I haven’t been as sick as I am now in a very long time. This has been such a huge hiccup in my life so far. It has delayed my numbers, cost me a weeks worth of work, thrown my education on a loop, everything seems to be going down the drain. For me, this is one of the worst times to get sick because it’s right in the prime of kung fu, my diplomas start tomorrow, everything is ahhhhhh. I guess my main goal for these few weeks is to keep my head up and push through.

Work and Play

Heyo everyone, this week’s blog is about the balance between work and play.

During my shift at work yesterday, it was probably one of the most entertaining shifts I had. Very rarely do the different departments interact for extended amounts of times whilst on the floor. However, for some reason, a lot of people wanted 300lb treadmills yesterday, so there was a lot of interaction. As the night progressed, everyone seemed to get more jubilant, and by the end, the staff were running through departments having an elastic band fight in the near empty store. And everything got finished that night, even with 2 people calling in sick.

I found the balance of work and play fell just right, so that not only was everyone’s efficiency at working boosted, but they enjoyed themselves as well. One thing I’m definitely gonna focus on is maintaining the balance of my work and play.
